Gore Vidal Calls Polanski Rape Victim A “Hooker”

Fox News Blog

GoreVidal1

Gore Vidal: Once a scumbag, always a scumbag.

Author Gore Vidal says he refuses to feel any sympathy for Roman Polanski’s rape victim, whom he dubs a “hooker.”

In an interview with The Atlantic, the controversial 83-year-old author of such books as “Myra Breckinridge” and “1876” says of the director’s sex scandal, “I really don’t give a [expletive]. Look am I going to sit and weep every time a young hooker feels as though she’s being taken advantage of?”

The young woman to whom he is referring is Samantha Geimer, who was a 13-year-old aspiring model in 1977 when she was drugged and raped by Polanski.

Vidal went on to say that the media pushed an inaccurate image of Geimer, painting her as an innocent victim as opposed to what he believes to be her true identity.

“I was in the middle of all that,” he says of the scandal. “Back then, we all were. Everybody knew everybody else. There was a totally different story at the time that doesn’t resemble anything that we’re now being told.”

Worse, Vidal claims that it is the media’s vehement “anti-Semitic and anti-fag thing” that led to the persecution of Polanski, who is Jewish and was born in Poland.

“The media can’t get anything straight … The idea that this girl was in her communion dress, a little angel all in white, being raped by this awful Jew, ‘Polacko’ – that’s what people were calling him – well, the story is totally different now from what it was then … Anti-Semitism got poor Polanski.”

Polanski, now 76, was arrested in Switzerland last month and is pending extradition. He has been living in France since he fled the U.S. in 1978, a year after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with an underage girl.

The director of such classic films as “Chinatown” and “Rosemary’s Baby” has asked a U.S. appeals court in California to overturn a judges’ refusal to throw out his case. He claims misconduct by the now-deceased judge who had arranged a plea bargain and then reneged on it.

Just three days ago, Geimer, now 46, asked the court to drop all charges against the director, claiming that the unwanted publicity has harmed her health, work and family.

B.S. Report–Consider the source when you hear a comment like this.  Gore Vidal has been a slime ball all his life–it would be odd if, at age 83, he started acting out of character.  The guy is despicable and he’s blaming a 13-year-old for being raped.  Plus, he’s calling her a young hooker to boot!  To Gore Vidal, drugging and having sex with a child is considered normal behavior in the slimy world he inhabits.  Fortunately, most people don’t share his debased views.

College Football Game Of The Day: USC (-3) At Oregon

From CBS Sports

While the Pac-10 champion won’t be crowned in Saturday’s top-10 matchup at Oregon, Southern California’s conference title hopes would all but end with a loss.

The fourth-ranked Trojans look to stay in the hunt for an eighth consecutive league title and shore up some defensive breakdowns when they visit the 10th-ranked Ducks and their prolific offense.

In less than two months, Oregon (6-1, 4-0) has made a season that could have become defined by an embarrassing loss at Boise State – and LeGarrette Blount’s infamous punch – into one with a chance to win its first Pac-10 title since 2001.

Riding a six-game winning streak, the Ducks, off to their best conference start since opening the 2000 season with seven straight league wins, stand alone atop the Pac-10.

Their lead is hardly safe.

USC (6-1, 3-1) and Arizona are tied for second, and either team could take the conference crown by winning out.

“Our conference is as tough right now, as I’m seeing it, as I’ve ever seen,” USC coach Pete Carroll said. “The team that makes it through it on top is going to be really good.”

The Trojans have owned at least a share of the Pac-10 title each season since Oregon last won it, but they’ll likely be out of the running should they lose this weekend.

To avoid that fate, USC’s defense will likely need to improve upon its performance from last Saturday’s 42-36 win over Oregon State.

The Trojans allowed the Beavers to roll up 482 yards of total offense, the most yielded by USC since giving up 556 yards to Texas in a 41-38 Rose Bowl loss following the 2005 season.

It was also the second straight shaky defensive effort for USC, which gave up 367 total yards in a 34-27 defeat at then-No. 25 Notre Dame on Oct. 17. The Trojans allowed an average of 8.6 points and 238.6 yards in their first five games.  (Read more.)

Strange Happenings At Coroner’s Office

WAUKEGAN, Ill., Oct. 30 (UPI) — Workers at an Illinois coroner’s office said unexplained sounds and other strange happenings began when a body was left in a cooler for months.

Robert Barrett, senior deputy coroner with the Lake County Coroner’s office, said workers began hearing strange knocking sounds and glimpsing figures walking around the autopsy room after the body of a woman who died in a nursing home was inadvertently left in a cooler for several months before she was identified, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

Did the figure look something like this?

“Some things that have happened here have made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up,” said Barrett, who described himself as skeptical of the supernatural.

“The first time I heard the knocking on the inside of the cooler, I was here at night by myself,” Barrett said. “I didn’t get up for at least an hour or two, so if anyone did come out I was at a safe distance.”

County Coroner Richard Keller said he has also had mysterious experiences at the office.

“Shortly after I took office I went to check for a pulse on a woman and when I touched her I received some sort of electric shock and was knocked back into a sitting position,” he said. “It was quite a surprise. I looked around to see if there were any wires down or something to explain it, but there was none of that.”

B.S. Report–Working in a coroner’s office would be disturbing enough to me.  But I think we need pictures…don’t these guys have cell phones with cameras?  Otherwise, they just sound like those yahoos in some small town telling us about the UFO they just saw.

NAACP Calls Halloween Display Disturbing

From Fox News

The mayor of Frederick, Md., says a controversial Halloween display featuring three faceless dummies hanging from a willow tree will remain at a city park, despite complaints from the NAACP.

President of the NAACP's Frederick County chapter, gestures toward one of three stuffed dummies at Baker Park.

Guy Djoken, president of Frederick County’s NAACP chapter, has called on Mayor Jeff Holtzinger to order parks officials to remove the display, which he calls “disturbing.”

“Something should be done right away,” Djoken told FoxNews.com. “When you look from a distance, it doesn’t look good. We should just remove it.”

But Holtzinger disagrees and dismissed the roughly two dozen complaints the NAACP received as part of an “attempt to get publicity” for the organization and to “justify” its existence. The display won’t be taken down any sooner than scheduled, he said.

The dummies, clad in jeans and stuffed shirts, hang in Baker Park from ropes affixed to their torsos up to 30 feet in the air — creating a sight that some say reminds them of lynchings while others describe it as a harmless holiday display.

“Certainly these weren’t meant to offend anybody,” Holtzinger said. “But at the same time, if you look at these things, they’re not realistic, they’re not tied by a noose. So I don’t think they’re anything other than a typical Halloween display you can see at any number of places.”  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–We have holiday displays around town that feature hanging dummies–does that automatically connote some connection to lynchings?  These are not realistic hanging depictions.  Nobody is clamoring to bring back lynchings–this is a Halloween display.  It would be a different story if the dummies were black and hanged by a noose but that’s not the case.

This just sounds like an NAACP ploy to try and justify their existence which is long past being necessary or productive.  It is far more offensive to hang in effigy an actual person.  For several weeks at a home in West Hollywood, a mannequin of Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been hanging.  But of course it doesn’t matter because she’s a Republican…

In West Hollywood, there's a much more tasteless display of a hanging depicting an actual live person: Sarah Palin.

Expensive Lunch Break: Deputy Assistant Attorney-General Fired After He’s Found With Stripper In His SUV At Downtown Cemetery

A US Deputy Assistant Attorney-General, who said he was on his lunch break when an officer found him with a stripper and sex toys in his sport utility vehicle, has been fired, his boss said.

Roland Corning

Roland Corning...stripper, viagra, sex toys...This guy has some interesting lunch breaks--is his lunch 1 hour?

Roland Corning, 66, a former state legislator, was in a secluded part of a downtown cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina, when an officer spotted him on Monday, according to a police report.

As the officer approached, Mr Corning sped off, then pulled over a few blocks away. He and the 18-year-old woman with him, an employee of the Platinum Plus Gentleman’s Club, gave conflicting stories about what they were doing in the cemetery, Officer Michael Wines wrote in his report, though he did not elaborate.

Mr Corning gave Officer Wines a badge showing he worked for the state Attorney-General’s Office.

Officer Wines, whose wife also works there, called her to make sure Mr Corning was telling the truth.

He then searched the SUV, where he found a Viagra pill and several sex toys, items Mr Corning said he always kept with him, “just in case”, according to the report.

Mr Corning and the woman were let go without charges. Officer Wines’s wife reported the call to her supervisor, who told Attorney-General Henry McMaster.

“We received credible information about inappropriate behavior Monday afternoon,” Mr McMaster said. “And by the close of business, he was no longer working here.”

Such a trip to the cemetery “would not be appropriate, at any time, for an assistant attorney-general”, Mr McMaster said.

There was no answer at a number listed for Mr Corning, who was a Republican legislator in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was hired in 2000 by the Attorney-General’s office, where he worked on securities cases.

South Carolina has had its share of scandal lately, most notably Governor Mark Sanford’s disappearance in June. His office told reporters he was hiking the Appalachian Trail, but he was really in Argentina visiting his mistress.

Bullet Strikes Lou Dobbs’ Home…

WANTAGE, N.J. (AP) – Police in New Jersey are trying to determine who fired a bullet that struck CNN commentator Lou Dobbs’ home as his wife stood nearby.  State police Sgt. Stephen Jones says Dobbs’ wife and driver were outside the home Oct. 5 when they heard the gunshot. Jones says the bullet didn’t penetrate the siding and fell to the ground outside.

Dobbs mentioned the bullet earlier this week on CNN and his radio show.

Dobbs says he had been receiving threatening phone calls for weeks. On his radio show, he connected the gunshot to his advocacy for a crackdown on illegal immigration and to his opponents’ rhetoric.

The home is on a farm in Wantage, about 50 miles northwest of New York City.

It is small-game hunting season, but no hunters were seen in the area.

Teens Cited For Disorderly Conduct When They Rap Their Order At McDonald’s Drive-Through

(AP) – AMERICAN FORK, Utah  —  A rap by four teenagers at a McDonald’s has gotten them a bad rap in one Utah city.

6a00d8341e820d53ef010536939ce6970c-320wi

"I'm rappin' Ronald, and now y'all know...don't rap your order through my drive-up win-dow!"

The teens were cited by American Fork police earlier this week for disorderly conduct after they rapped their order at a McDonald’s drive-through.

The teens said they were imitating a popular video on YouTube. They rapped their order, which begins with, “I need a double cheeseburger and hold the lettuce …” once quickly before repeating it more slowly.

Spenser Dauwalder said employees at the restaurant told him and his friends they were holding up the line and needed to order or leave.

The 18-year-old said nobody was in line. He and his three 17-year-old friends left without buying anything.

American Fork Police Sgt. Gregg Ludlow says a manager wrote down the car’s license plate number and called police. The teens were later cited by officers at a high school parking lot outside a volleyball match.

“We thought, you know, just teenagers out having fun,” Dauwalder told KSL Newsradio. “We didn’t think it would escalate to that.”

Disorderly conduct citations are issued when someone does something to cause annoyance or alarm, Ludlow said. The citation is an infraction similar to a speeding ticket, Ludlow said.

“It was not just that they were rapping, they continued to hold things up,” Ludlow said.

Ludlow said the teens were asked several times to speak plainly and that ultimately the manager came outside.

The owner-operator of the American Fork McDonald’s said in a statement that the issue was about employees’ safety.

“The employee in question felt that her safety was at risk as a result of the alleged actions of these individuals in the drive-thru, not as a result of them rapping their order,” franchisee Conny Kramer said in the statement. “As such, she contacted the local authorities.”

But Sharon Dauwalder, Spenser’s mother, said they will fight it nonetheless.

“We have to,” she told the Associated Press on Thursday. “The citation is there.”  (Read more.)

B.S. Report– Most of us did stupid stuff like this when we were kids but McDonald’s is a place of business and the customers don’t need to be subjected to kids who are just out trying to make a splash on YouTube.

If you’re willing to inconvenience other people than you should be willing to pay the consequences when other people fight back against being inconvenienced.  While I don’t necessarily agree with pressing charges against the kids without knowing all the facts,  I do agree that if they were causing people to wait inordinately long, and they ignored warnings from the staff, than they deserve it.
