Woman Delivers Granddaughter While Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner…Now That’s Multi-Tasking!

BOSTON (AP) —  A Boston woman says she was forced to split her time between helping her daughter deliver a baby at home and cooking Thanksgiving dinner.

Patricia McCalop was in the middle of preparing the meal when Africa McCalop suddenly went into labor two weeks early.

The grandmother called 911, and a dispatcher talked her through the delivery and helped her confirm that the baby girl was healthy and breathing.

Paramedics arrived shortly afterward and took the mother and newborn to the hospital. They are both in good health.

McCalop said she kept running between the kitchen and her daughter in labor because she didn’t want the turkey to burn while helping her child deliver the baby.

The infant weighed six pounds.

"I'll be right there, dear. This turkey is done."

10,000 Albinos In Hiding Fearing They Will Be Dismembered

(CNN) — As many as 10,000 albinos are in hiding in east Africa over fears that they will be dismembered and their body parts sold to witchdoctors, the Red Cross said in a recent report.

The killings of albinos in Burundi and Tanzania, who are targeted because their body parts are believed to have special powers, have sparked fears among the population in the two countries, the report said.

Body parts of albinos are sought in some regions of Africa because they are believed to bring wealth and good luck. Attackers chop off limbs and pluck out organs to sell to dealers, who in turn sell them to witchdoctors.

Scores of albinos have fled to Tanzanian schools for the disabled or in emergency shelters set up by police in Burundi to avoid attacks, according to the report.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–Albino parts bring good luck?  Their parts haven’t necessarily brought good luck to albinos.  They’re prone to vision problems and susceptible to skin cancer.   And depending upon which third-world area they happen to be in, they are thought of as either evil or magical.

It’s really a drag when those who worship you want to murder you so they can use you in a witchdoctor’s potion.  In other words, they are looked at similar to Rhinos’ horns, elephants’ ivory, or the sexual organs of many animals as cure-alls for all sorts of maladies.  Yep, being an albino is sure lucky… Leave the poor albinos alone–get a rabbit’s foot–there’s always plenty of rabbits.

Living Dangerously! Ten-Pin Bowling Alleys Can Be Dangerous...

It’s a peril that only a crack team of health and safety experts could have uncovered.

After two years and £250,000, they found that ten-pin bowling alleys up and down the country could be a ‘very dangerous’ environment for families.

They concluded that it was too easy for children or teenagers to run down lanes and get trapped in machinery that sets up the pins – even though there was no record of any such accident having happened.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–Government is out of control all over the world.  The mere fact that this UK study could piss away all that money and then determine that a  bowling alley could be a dangerous place for a family–even though there are no instances that they could cite to prove that danger, speaks more of the dangers of big government than anything else.

Remember, government bureaucrats exist to make our lives more difficult.  They need to find problems to justify their own governmental departments.  They do this by passing mostly unnecessary laws that are a waste of paper and by the time they are through writing these new laws we all need lawyers to comprehend them.  Government is not your friend…

Cop Killer Was Out On Street Despite Lengthy Sentences

As the suspect in the ambush execution of four police officers remains on the run, questions are swirling as to how and why Maurice Clemmons — an ex-con who at one time faced more than 100 years behind bars — was allowed to live free.

Clemmons, 37, of Tacoma, Wash., has an extensive, violent criminal history marked by volatile and unstable behavior, according to court records and news reports.

His criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington, according to The Seattle Times. He had a lengthy prison sentence commuted in 2000 by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who cited Clemmons’ youth.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–Another example of compassion costing us the lives of four good people.  Why on earth was this violent, unstable guy permitted to be free?  It’s one thing if the guy is a non-violent career criminal.  But this guy was convicted of all sorts of violent felonies.  Top that off with the fact that everyone that knows him and has dealt with him says he’s out of his mind.

Why don’t we just let individuals serve the sentence they’ve been handed down?  If someone injects him or herself into the legal process to change the sentencing guidelines of a criminal–they should have to be accountable in some way if something like this happens.  I’m not saying they should go to prison–but it should cost that person something.  We know what it cost the four officers and their families.

Judge Erases Couple’s $525G Mortgage Debt

New York – A Long Island couple is home free after an outraged judge gave them an amazing Thanksgiving present – canceling their debt to ruthless bankers trying to toss them out on the street. Suffolk Judge Jeffrey Spinner wiped out $525,000 in mortgage payments demanded by a California bank, blasting its “harsh, repugnant, shocking and repulsive” acts, the New York Post reported.

The bombshell decision leaves Diane Yano-Horoski and her husband, Greg Horoski, owing absolutely no money on their ranch house in East Patchogue. OneWest said, “We respectfully disagree with the lower court’s unprecedented ruling and we expect that it will be overturned on appeal.”  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–While I have no love for mismanaged banks that had  to take bailout money–I can’t imagine that this ruling will be allowed to stand.  Is that really the role of the judge–to wipe out the entire debt owed by people on their home loan?

I could see possibly wiping out the interest and penalties and forcing the bank to restructure the loan if their acts were that egregious, but eliminating the actual loan?

Collect $525,000...

Dog Recovering After Eating 130 Nails

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 2-year-old basset hound is recovering after eating more than 100 nails, WAPT-TV in Jacksonville reported.Ashley Saks said she couldn’t believe what she saw when the veterinarian brought her the X-rays.“I counted about 130, but I don’t know how many she threw up before she was taken, so it could’ve been more,” Saks said.

The X-rays showed a clump of about 100 or so nails stuck at the base of Roxy’s stomach. At that point, there were already a few stragglers that had made their way through her intestines.“They put her to sleep, stuck something down her throat, and pulled them out a few at a time,” said Saks. “Because it was such a big bulk, they couldn’t just pull them out; it took over an hour to do that.”

Saks said she left the dog with a friend for the weekend while she was out of town, and told her friend to make sure to lock Roxy up whenever he left because she doesn’t like being alone. But on Nov. 21, he ran to the store thinking Roxy would be OK, and that’s when she found the nails, Saks said.Saks said the nails didn’t puncture any of Roxy’s internal organs.

NEW YORK (AP) – Much of the prime-time audience lost to NBC when Jay Leno moved into prime-time has gone not to its rivals but the digital video recorder.

This box is Leno's chief competition...it's stealing his audience away.

Rival network executives seemed almost giddy at the possibilities last spring after NBC announced Leno would do a comedy show five nights a week at 10 p.m. There will be more viewers available “for people who put on great dramas,” said Leslie Moonves, CBS chief executive, “and that’s what we do.”

It hasn’t quite worked out that way.  NBC’s audience at that hour is down sharply, as many predicted. CBS is up 6 percent over last season, primarily because it moved the hit series “The Mentalist” into that slot; on three of the five nights, its audience is down. ABC is also down slightly at that hour, and it wasn’t exactly overwhelmed with hits last year, either.  (Read more.)
