NFL Game Of The Day: “Benless” Steelers At Ravens (-8)

From CBS Sports

The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens met, a place in the Super Bowl was at stake. This time, the matchup could play a big role in which team reaches the postseason.

The AFC North rivals meet Sunday night in Baltimore with neither in first place, both searching for answers and Ben Roethlisberger expected to sit out for the Steelers after suffering his fourth concussion since 2006.

Ben Roethlisberger has been ruled out of today's game due to the effects of a concussion suffered last week.

Pittsburgh (6-4) beat Baltimore (5-5) three times in 2008 en route to its record sixth Super Bowl title, and its 23-14 win in the AFC title game may have been the most bruising encounter of the bunch. The defensive battle saw each team punt seven times, with the Steelers putting the game out of reach with Troy Polamalu’s 40-yard interception return for a touchdown with 4:24 left.

Both teams trail North leader Cincinnati, which is 7-3. These clubs meet twice in the next five weeks and the stakes are completely different less than 10 months since they last played.

That doesn’t change anyone’s expectation of a hard-hitting, tightly contested matchup.

“The way we play each other, it’s always a physical ballgame, it’s always going to come down to one of the last plays,” Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis said. “It’s just the way it is.”  (Read more.)

Day Of Freedom Offered As First Prize In Jail Raffle…Withdrawn By Prison Governor

From the UK Daily Mail

It has to be the number one item on every prisoner’s Christmas wish list. Their freedom.

But there was incredulity yesterday when it emerged that one convict was to have his wish granted – as first prize in a raffle.

The reward of a day’s freedom was being offered at Kirkham open prison near Preston.

Last night, after a storm of protest it was withdrawn by the prison governor. An alternative prize will be offered instead.   (Read more.)

B.S. Report–What an idiotic thing to do!  Apparently, even violent criminals were  eligible for the prize.  But the backlash was so strong that the prize was eventually withdrawn.

"Okay, have a fun day...but remember to come back tomorrow--and please don't commit any crimes while you're out!"

(AP)–FALL RIVER, Mass. —  Massachusetts police say a man locked his two young sons in the trunk of his car while he ran an errand.

Fall River police say Michael Monahan put his kids, ages 3 and 6, in the trunk of his Pontiac Trans Am for several minutes Tuesday morning while he went inside a sailing shop.

(Pic added by B.S. Report)

KHARTOUM (Reuters) – A 16-year-old south Sudanese girl was lashed 50 times after a judge ruled her knee-length skirt was indecent, her lawyer and family said in the latest case to push Sudan’s Islamic law into the spotlight.

The mother of teenager Silva Kashif told Reuters on Friday she was planning to sue the police who made the arrest and the judge who imposed the sentence, as her daughter was underage and a Christian.

The case will add fuel to a debate already raging over Sudan’s decency laws after this year’s high-profile conviction of Sudanese U.N. official Lubna Hussein, who was briefly jailed for wearing trousers in public.  (Read more.)
