New York Assemblyman Proposes Bill That Assumes Organ Donation Unless You Opt Out In Writing

Organ donation has become a vital way to save lives around the world, but a vast shortage of donors continues to mean people are losing their lives while on waiting lists.

But there is a unique proposal that could change all that.

New York State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky nearly lost his daughter, Willie, at 4 years old when she needed a kidney transplant, and again 10 years later when her second kidney failed.

“We have 10,000 New Yorkers on the list today waiting for organs. We import half the organs we transplant. It is an unacceptable failed system,” Brodsky said.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–There is a more economical solution–let private individuals sell their organs.  This would allow them to profit from their own bodies and dramatically increase the size of the organ pool.  Further, it would dramatically illustrate the importance of private property rights. Do we or do we not own our own bodies?  Obviously, we don’t if we are forbidden from selling our organs.

The test of property ownership: If we truly own something then we should have the legal right to sell it. That would include our organs...

Arizona Law Enrages And Energizes Hispanics; Marches Planned In 70 Cities

(Reuters) – U.S. Hispanics and Democratic lawmakers furious over Arizona’s harsh crackdown on illegal immigrants expect huge weekend rallies across the United States, piling pressure on President Barack Obama to overhaul immigration laws in this election year.

Protest organizers said on Wednesday outrage over the Arizona law — which seeks to drive illegal immigrants out of the state bordering Mexico — has galvanized Latinos and would translate into a higher turnout for May Day rallies in more than 70 U.S. cities.

“The marches and demonstrations are going to be far more massive than they otherwise would have been,” said Juan Jose Gutierrez, a Los Angeles rally organizer who runs an immigration assistance company.

The backlash began on Friday after Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law a measure that requires state and local police to determine a person’s immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” they are undocumented. Critics say it is unconstitutional and opens the door to racial profiling.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–Legal immigrants have rights.  And with a few exceptions, naturalized citizens have  nearly the same rights as native-born citizens.  But just what are the rights of “illegal” immigrants?   There has to be something beyond the right to demand money from legal citizens in the form of welfare, medical care and literally hundreds of other  assistance programs.

We just went through this a few years back and I don’t think Americans are going to be any more receptive this time around.  Personally, I’m a bit put off when people who are in this country illegally start lecturing us about their rights.

I was always taught that there is no such thing as rights without corresponding responsibilities.  It’s time we pressure both political parties to end this welfare magnet that is draining our resources and once and for all take control of our borders and our sovereignty.

Doctors And Scientists Studying Man Who Claims He Hasn’t Had Any Food Or Drink In 70 Years!

SCIENTISTS are studying an 82-year-old man who claims he has not had any food or drink for 70 years.

Prahlad Jani’s claims are being put to the test at a hospital in Ahmedabad, where he is being closely monitored and studied by India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, which believes he may have a quality which could help save lives, The Telegraph reports.

He has so far spent six days without food or water under the strict observation of doctors who say his body is yet to show any signs of hunger or dehydration.

Mr Jani is regarded as a “breatharian” who can live a “spiritual life-force” alone. He believes he is sustained by the “elixir” of a goddess.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–Wow, I’ve never met a “breatharian.”  He brings new meaning to the phrase, “I’m just living the simple life.”  He must be a lot of fun to hang out with.  “C’mon over to my place, I’m having another “breathing party.”

Ah, Rats! Island Formerly Over-Run By Rats Now Being Devastated By Rabbits

A Hebridean island which spent £600,000 ridding itself of rats has now become over-run with rabbits.

The last rat was seen on the tiny island of Canna four years ago after specialist pest controllers were brought in from more than 11,000 miles away to deal with the problem.

But now islanders are complaining that the rodent’s disappearance has led to thousands of rabbits invading the island because there are no rats to keep their numbers down.

The problem is so bad that locals say historic monuments are being “devastated” by the rabbits and they are devouring the self-sufficient islanders’ gardens away.

Even the island’s only restaurant has responded to the bounty and put on dishes of rabbit and cranberry with pistachio and rabbit pie in a rosemary and thyme cream sauce.  (Read more.)

Wedding Off But Woman Fighting To Keep $17,500 Engagement Ring

NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) — A New York woman who refused to return a $17,500 engagement ring after marriage plans fell apart said she will go to court to keep the jewelry.

Colette Dipierro, 28, said ex-fiance Christopher Reinhold, 25, gave her the ring on her birthday in May so she does not feel obligated to return it despite the end of the engagement, WPIX-TV, New York, reported Tuesday.

Reinhold said in court papers the ring was given to Dipierro “in contemplation and consideration of marriage.” He is suing for its return.

Dipierro said she was engaged to Reinhold for four months. She said the relationship began in 2007 and she eventually lived with him, paying rent and expenses.

She said she was having doubts about the relationship when he proposed marriage.

“Society puts a lot of pressure on women to get married at a certain age,” Dipierro said of her initial decision to accept the proposal.

Reinhold’s attorney declined to comment when contacted by WPIX-TV.

Better Than AAA!…Elephant Helps Out After Safari Jeep Breaks Down

Lawrence Bates was all set to call for assistance when his jeep at West Midland Safari Park broke down, until Five the elephant decided to give him a helping hand.

The 18-year-old African Elephant got behind and pushed the car out of trouble and out of the enclosure.

She even cleaned the car in the process.

Five reached into a bucket of water with her trunk, sprayed the vehicle with water to remove any dust, then gathered up a sponge with her trunk and cleaned the windows and paintwork with the style of a true professional.

Director of Wildlife, Bob Lawrence, said: “The jeep broke down one morning and the lads jumped out to have a look at it, popped the bonnet and had a look at the oil.

“We still couldn’t get it to start so gave it a push start, eventually got it going – at this time though its covered with dirty hand marks so Five gave it a quick wash and a hose down.  (Read more.)
