Happy 279th Birthday George!

B.S. Report–It can hardly be argued that George Washington is the single most important individual in our nation’s history.  He dominated the political landscape for more than two decades as both soldier and statesman.  Unfortunately, his birthday holiday has been moved from his actual birthday (today) and further altered into insignificance by calling his holiday “Presidents Day,” as if we’re honoring George Washington, James Buchanan, and, God help us, Barack Obama equally.

Yet, his influence is felt even today as many of our precedents date back to Washington himself.  You can learn more about our greatest citizen by reading one of the countless biographies of Washington.  I recommend “Washington: The Indispensable Man” by James Thomas Flexner or “Washington by Douglas Southall Freeman.  Flexner’s book is a little more accessible while Freeman’s is comprehensive but on the dry side.  Both are abridged versions of multi-volume treatments.

B.S. Report–Here’s my official rankings of America’s presidents; well, actually a ranking of our best president and our worst president…
