  1. I have been reading your blog for quite a while. You strike me as someone who is conservative and against all of the waste and nonsense that is all too common today.

You are making a mistake by dismissing Ron Paul. He is one of the few candidates that is consistent in his message and is honest. If Romney or Perry get elected, heaven help us. They will probably be worse than Obama. Do yourself a favor and do some homework on Ron Paul (http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/national-defense/). Even better, read some of his books, like End the Fed. The establishment will never allow Ron Paul to become President. But perhaps he can at least influence some of the policies of the other candidates for the better.

    • DrM,

I’m at heart a conservative/libertarian who believes in a strong national defense. I am absolutely not a “neocon.” I was once a big Harry Browne supporter and I’m a devotee of Austrian economists von Mises, Hayek, and Rothbard. However, as “on the ball” as I believe that Dr. Paul is on the economic side of things, many of his foreign policy views are dangerous and naive. It’s as simple as that. Honestly, could anyone really believe that Iran won’t try to acquire and use nuclear weapons against Israel and/or ultimately us?

DrM, I don’t trust Romney, Newt, or Perry any more than you do–but I will vote for them because there is a difference between any of them, and Obama. We cannot make the best the enemy of the better. There is no such thing as a “perfect” candidate. Personally, I lean towards Bachmann or Santorum because I believe they have solid core convictions that they will fight for. If Paul somehow won the nomination (he won’t), I would vote for him and do whatever necessary to convince him of the necessity for a strong national security in this age of terrorism. But, frankly, some of his views scare the heck out of me. Thanks for writing and all the best to you.
