Salute To The Greatest Horse Ever…Secretariat!

B.S. Report–Secretariat (The Movie) is out in theaters and I hear that it’s reasonably enjoyable–though definitely not a great film.  However, Secretariat (The Horse) may have been the greatest racehorse of all time.

I’ve yet to see the movie but if what I’ve heard is true, I have at least one major gripe.  Apparently, the filmmakers took some liberties with the facts.  In the film, Secretariat’s main rival is the fine horse, Sham, and in order to make Sham appear to be a greater “villain” and threat to Secretariat, we’re told that Sham beat Secretariat in the Wood Memorial.

That isn’t exactly the whole truth.  Actually, Angle Light won the Wood Memorial finishing ahead of both Sham and Secretariat, who finished second and third, respectively.  I don’t get it.  Why not just tell the truth?  I doubt that the movie would have been less compelling using the true results instead of altering the historical record.

Below is perhaps the greatest race ever run by any racehorse.  Secretariat’s performance in the Belmont Stakes can only be described as “freakish.”  His time for the dirt mile-and-a-half (2:24) still stands today, and no other horse has ever broken 2:25!  And Chic Anderson’s call of the race will send chills up your spine even today!

  1. That blonde lady is not Diane Lane. Look at her. Diane Lane is all over the internet, this is a phoney. She looks like Betty Broderick. Google “Diane Lane” and you will see a younger, horsewoman who is the real owner of Secretariat. What frauds!

  2. i love this video!!!! i love him!!!!!!!!!! he is one amazing horse, no horse can ever beat him even the other horse history horses

  3. The “real” owner is Penny Tweedy Chenery, who is the blonde woman in the black and white video clip. Diane Lane is only the owner in the film.

  4. this is GREAT. the horse is incredible and the call at belmont is UNBELIEVABLE. GREAT JOB BY BOTH. BEST HORSE EVER.

  5. The finest thoroughbred that ever lived. After his triple crown victory, I saw him win the Marlboro Cup at Belmont Park in September 1973. Beauty in motion ♥♥♥ !!!

Hollywood has never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
