SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A fugitive facing a life sentence for attempted murder was arrested Wednesday, nearly two decades after escaping from juvenile hall.
Baldomero Johnny Diaz, 35, was arrested in Menifee and was being held without bail, the Orange County district attorney’s office said in a statement. He will be transferred Thursday to state custody to begin serving his prison sentence, the statement said.
He does not face charges for escaping from custody, said district attorney’s spokeswoman Farrah Emami.
Diaz was convicted in 1990 of six counts of attempted murder for a drive-by gang shooting in Santa Ana in 1989.

"Hey, Give up already...we know who you are, Diaz! Stop running!"
He escaped from juvenile hall by climbing through a hole in a fence. Diaz was sentenced in absentia to life in prison six weeks after his escape.
Prosecutors said they began investigating Diaz’s whereabouts last month and learned he had been arrested twice in San Diego County under different aliases in the last decade for solicitation of prostitution and driving under the influence.
It was not immediately clear if Diaz had an attorney. William Monroe, who represented Diaz at the time of his escape, is now a Superior Court judge.
B.S. Report–19 years on the run and still only 35 years old. That means if his health holds up he could spend a “good” 50-60 years behind bars. Here’s wishing you a nice long life, Diaz!

Lets hope your calendar needs at least 20,000 X's.
B.S. Report–Yes, I understand that “life in prison” does not really mean LIFE in prison. The reality is that this guy will be paroled, like most felons who are sentenced to life in prison, after serving anywhere between 7 and 20 years.
What I was commenting on was how surprising it was that he’s been on the run for nearly 20 years–yet he’s still only 35! See, it’s nice to know at an early age what you want to do with your life. Diaz knew immediately that he wanted to be a career criminal.
