Shuler Tops Pelosi’s “Enemies” List

Nancy Pelosi hates you.. not bad.

Former professional football player and Blue Dog Democrat Heath Shuler is at the top of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “enemies list,’’ according to Politico.

Why? Shuler, D-N.C., has staked out a leadership position as a fiscal conservative who doesn’t ride with the pack on issues like the massive stimulus package, which he and five other conservative “Blue Dog” Democrats voted against. Shuler’s name tops a list of 10 alleged enemies of the speaker. While many are predictable – Rush Limbaugh occupies the No. 2 spot, Virginia Republican Eric Cantor comes in at No. 4 – others are Pelosi’s ostensible compatriots in the Democratic Party.

“No Democrat has done quite so much in so short a time to arouse Pelosi’s disdain as the failed-Redskins-quarterback-turned-ambitious-North-Carolina-congressman,” according to Politico.

“The conservative, anti-abortion Shuler would have made the list for voting against both bank bailout bills and the stimulus package, but the way he went about it didn’t help; Shuler told an audience back home that “House leadership and Senate leadership have really failed” on the $787 billion package.” What most riles Pelosi, according to several accounts, is that Shuler may be positioning himself for a run against Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., next year.

Unless Shuler is planning a long House career, picking a fight with Pelosi may indeed have its advantages: His 2006 opponent, incumbent GOP Rep. Charles Taylor, scored points by portraying Shuler as a Pelosi acolyte.

B.S. Report–I don’t make enemies lists…but if I did Nancy Pelosi would definitely find herself near the top of mine.

In fact, I would rather Nancy Pelosi just sit in her office all day making lists than doing just about anything else.  At least that would take away some of the time she would otherwise be using to help President Obama destroy the country.

Pelosi is an enemy of the people and an enemy of freedom.  She is everything a public servant shouldn’t be:  controlling, dishonest, manipulative, and devious.  Other than that, she’s a class act. Heath Shuler should consider it an honor to be at the top of such a list.

Franken Certain He Will Survive Recount And Be Named Senator

Democratic senatorial challenger Al Franken says he’s “quite certain” that he ultimately will be declared the winner of his Minnesota battle against Norm Coleman, the Republican senator who is now wrapping up his side of the election contest.

Franken also says he expects the trial reviewing the election to end in the next two to three weeks, compared with the five weeks of testimony the Coleman team elicited.

Speaking Saturday at a Democratic fundraiser, Franken told the spirited audience that he has fielded a lot of questions recently about the election contest.

“I think this trial will be over in about two or three weeks,” he said, “and I’m quite certain it’s going to reconfirm the recount. And at that point I hope to be seated.”

Referring to the paper-thin margin separating the candidates — unofficially, Franken leads by 261 votes out of nearly 3 million cast — the Democrat quipped, “I think there’s enough people in this room to say, ‘You might have been the difference.’”

B.S. Report–I agree with Franken 100%–I’m pretty certain he’ll be named Minnesota’s next Senator.  The Democratic Party runs Minnesota and they will undoubtedly “find” as many votes as necessary to insure that outcome.

White House Knocks Cramer For His Statement

Host of "Mad Money" thinks Obama's gone mad.

NBC’s Tom Costello, on duty at the White House today, asked press secretary Robert Gibbs about some comments made by his CNBC colleague Jim Cramer. On the Today show this morning, Cramer called Pres. Obama’s budget a “radical agenda,” adding, “This is the greatest wealth destruction I’ve seen by a President.”

“I’m not entirely sure what he’s pointing to to make some of the statements,” said Gibbs. “And you can go back and look at any number of statements he’s made in the past about the economy and wonder where some of the back-up for those are too.”

"I have gone Mad!"

When pressed further by Costello, Gibbs said, “If you turn on a certain program it’s geared to a very small audience. No offense to my good friends, or friend at CNBC. But the President has to look out for the broader economy and the broader population.”

Last month Gibbs had some choice words for Cramer’s colleague, Rick Santelli and his criticism of the Obama mortgage plan.

Talk About Dumbed-Down Education…Liverpool University Offering An MA Degree in “The Beatles”

Degree In Beatleology Offered At Liverpool Hope University

LONDON (Reuters) – A university in Liverpool has launched a Master of Arts degree in The Beatles, the city’s most famous sons, and called the qualification the first of its kind.

The Fab 4 now offered as a degree.

Liverpool Hope University says on its website that the course entitled “The Beatles, Popular Music and Society” consists of four 12-week taught modules and a dissertation.

“There have been over 8,000 books about The Beatles but there has never been serious academic study and that is what we are going to address,” said Mike Brocken, senior lecturer in popular music at Hope.

“Forty years on from their break-up, now is the right time and Liverpool is the right place to study The Beatles.

“This MA is expected to attract a great deal of attention, not just locally but nationally and we have already had enquiries from abroad, particularly the United States.”

The university said it was the first postgraduate taught course on The Beatles in the United Kingdom, and possibly the world.

The Fab Four were born and raised in Liverpool and went on to become arguably the most successful pop band of all time.

B.S. Report–Sure, I liked the Beatles as much as the next guy when I was growing up…but as I’ve gotten older I realize that they were just a darn good rock and roll band.  They were great and they were innovative, but there wasn’t much more to it than that…other than the incredible adulation bestowed on them.

Only in the make believe land of the University could the Beatles be considered a serious course of study. Yes, I understand it’s Liverpool (the Beatles hometown), so you kind of have to cut them a little bit of slack. I’m not bashing the Beatles…I liked the Beatles, but what kind of degree is this?

If I had a Beatle degree I would not display it proudly, as if I had actually accomplished something meaningful.  That being said, I believe it will be a popular course of study and someday they’ll offer a PhD in Beatleology…but I will never, ever, ever refer to a person who has a PhD in the Beatles, as Doctor.

Recession So Bad That Japan Has Cut The Size Of The Silver Cup They Award Citizens On Their 100th Birthday

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan now has so many people over 100 that it is cutting costs by reducing the size of silver cups it presents to those who reach that age.

If the recession worsens, Japan is also considering awarding Winnie-the-Pooh Dixie Cups.

Last year 19,769 people reached triple figures in the world’s most rapidly aging country, compared with only 153 in 1963, the year when the cups were first presented.

“We realized there’s not such a big difference in appearance if we cut the diameter from 10.5 to 9 cm (4.13 to 3.54 inches),” an official at the Health Ministry said. “We also had to think about how to continue to do this for an increasing number of people on a limited budget.”

The cups are presented on September 15, a holiday designated Respect for the Aged Day, to people who have turned 100 in the past year. The cost varies with the price of silver, but the Yomiuri newspaper said it was about 7,000-8,000 yen ($72-82) apiece, including a wooden presentation box.

The Japanese are the world’s longest-lived people, a phenomenon experts have attributed to a range of factors, including diet and widely available health care. There are 36,436 people aged over 100 in a population of 127.8 million.

B.S. Report–I understand President Obama is thinking about doing something similar to reward those American citizens when they reach 100 years of age.  Obama has decided to salute these folks with a new luxury tax; called a “Fogey-Tax.”

The Fogey-Tax would be a tax on such items as dentures, wheelchairs, walkers, artificial and replacement limbs, and transplanted organs.

Obama says that this should serve as a “stimulus” to the economy since many of these elderly people have been staying home and “sitting on their wealth.”  Now, with their wealth confiscated, many of them will be forced to go back out to the workforce again giving the economy a much-needed boost.

Obama has even found them nice government union positions…they’ll be hired on as part of the “Government Greeter Program.”  The elderly worker will be stationed outside of government offices and officially greet people as they enter the building.

Man Pleads Not Guilty Of Beheading And Cannabalism On Canadian Bus

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) – A man accused of beheading and cannibalizing a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus in Canada apologized to police when he was arrested and begged officers to kill him. The details emerged Tuesday as Vince Li pleaded not guilty at the start of his murder trial.

“I’m sorry. I’m guilty. Please kill me,” Li said, according to an agreed statement of facts read in court.

The Chinese immigrant is accused of the second-degree murder last summer of Tim McLean, a 22-year-old carnival worker who was killed in what passengers described as a random, horrific attack.

Li’s lawyers are not disputing that he killed McLean, but they will argue Li was mentally ill and not criminally responsible.

Three dozen passengers were aboard the bus as it traveled at night along a desolate stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway in western Canada. Witnesses said Li attacked McLean unprovoked, stabbing him dozens of times.

As horrified passengers fled the bus, Li severed McLean’s head and displayed it to some of the passengers outside, witnesses said. (Read more.)

B.S. Report–You’re just some poor schlub taking the bus somewhere and some maniac hacks you to death and then eats you.  There is no punishment too inhumane for the person who did that.

He admitted to the police that he was guilty and that he wanted to be killed.  That indicates that the guy knows what he did.  Now the attorneys and the shrinks are going to come in and tell everyone that he was insane.  Who cares?  Don’t let him get off the hook by institutionalizing him–this guy needs to suffer.

Though we live in civilization, we are constantly reminded that there is no amount of evil that supposedly civilized human beings are not capable of committing.

Woman Finds Blue Angels Crash Artifacts From 50 Years Ago

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Debbie Harris knew the military dog tag and small metal emblem of a Navy fighter squadron she recently found in the sand near her home on an Alabama beach belonged to a Blue Angels pilot who was killed when his jet crashed there a half-century ago.

But she wanted to find out more about Cmdr. Robert Nicholls Glasgow and what happened , so she turned to her aunt and uncle, who live in Pensacola, home of the National Museum of Naval Aviation. Their search led them to the museum’s director, Bob Rasmussen, a retired Navy captain and once a member of the famed flight demonstration team.

“I said to myself, ‘Isn’t that a coincidence,’ ” Rasmussen mused. “Of all the people that they might have brought this to, it happened to be the person who was flying with him the morning he was killed in that crash.”

That’s not the only coincidence, Harris said Friday, when she went to the museum to show Rasmussen what she had found.  (Read more.)

Woman has to take down sign saying, “I rent three bedrooms to white people”

NIAGARA FALLS—Two days after a man was sentenced to probation and community service for putting up a sign as a “joke” in a public works garage that said “whites only” on a drinking fountain, city police were called to a home in the 600 block of 25th Street on Sunday to investigate another racially charged sign.

This one was clearly no joke.

No charges were filed Sunday, but police told the woman she must take down the handwritten sign on a fence on her property saying, “I rent three bedrooms [at her address to] white people Niagara Falls.”

The 53-year-old woman told police she put up the sign after someone tried to break into her house and added, “I can do what I want. I live in America,” according to a police report.

Police said they received complaints and she must take the sign down. An officer at the scene said the woman agreed to take down the sign under protest. The officer said the woman already had seven more signs she was planning to hang up.

B.S. Report–She’s obviously a racist so I don’t have sympathy for her viewpoint.  That being said, isn’t that why we have a first amendment, so even people with despicable views like hers can voice them?

Doesn’t she have the legal right to say what she wants, abhorrent as it is, especially on her own property?  I mean, where is the ACLU? (rhetorical question.)

Seriously though, the Klan is allowed to hold public rallies.  This lady is posting an unpopular sign in her own yard.  Yet the police said that because they’ve received complaints she must take the sign down.  I know they would appreciate her taking the sign down, but legally, does she have to take the sign down?

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Las Vegas casino legend Sheldon Adelson launched a quest for America’s most boring city on Tuesday in a comeback to President Barack Obama’s criticism of bankers who hold meetings in the famous gaming capital.

Obama last month warned companies that get bailout cash against spending it on activities potentially seen as perks — sparking a row with hotel and resort operators who say they are already struggling to fill rooms and may have to cut jobs.

“The good news is that Las Vegas has become a synonym for a good time for adults. Let me not say adults, I’ll say grown-ups, I don’t want to give the wrong impression,” Adelson, majority owner of casino operator Las Vegas Sands, said.

“The bad news is that because it is a place for a good time, President Obama says that he doesn’t want taxpayer’s money to go there,” Adelson told the Reuters Travel and Leisure Summit.

“But I’m going to conduct a survey and I’m going to provide a prize for people who will submit the name of the worst city in the country to go to, where people can enjoy it the least. Because that’s the alternative. The alternative is you go to a place where you enjoy, or you go to a place you don’t enjoy.”

The self-made billionaire, who tore down the original Sands to build the Venetian Resort complete with canals, and brought business conventions to Las Vegas, declined to nominate places for his ‘dive prize’ but took a swipe at Obama’s home town.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–With the way that President Obama and Fed Chief Ben Bernanke have been talking down the market,  it may not be long before Las Vegas is turned into a desert once again.  They have been hit hard by this recession and it wouldn’t be  surprising if there are major layoffs in Vegas.

The flip side of that is if you are an occasional traveler to Vegas you don’t have to worry about room availability for the near future.  There are some pretty rare deals to be found if you do your homework and look for them.
