Hansen’s Not A Scientist…He’s An Activist

How is this guy still working with NASA?

Trust me...global warming is a fact--even though I keep messing up the data.

Trust me...global warming is a fact--even though I keep messing up the data.

In a video on capitolclimateaction.org, Dr. James Hansen is seen urging Americans to “take a stand on global warming” during the March 2nd protest at the Capitol Power Plant in Southeast Washington, D.C.

“We need to send a message to Congress and the president that we want them to take the actions that are needed to preserve climate for young people and future generations and all life on the planet,” says Hansen, who has likened coal-fired power plants to “factories of death” and claims he was muzzled by the Bush administration when he warned of drastic climate changes.

“What has become clear from the science is that we cannot burn all of the fossil fuels without creating a very different planet. The only practical way to solve the problem is to phase out the biggest source of carbon — and that’s coal.”

But critics say Hansen’s latest call to action blurs the line between astronomer and activist and may violate the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from participating in partisan political activity.

“Oh my goodness,” one of Hansen’s former supervisors, Dr. John Theon, told FOXNews.com when informed of the video. “I’m not surprised … The fact that Jim Hansen has gone off the deep end here is sad because he’s a good fellow.”

B.S. Report–Well, it’s obvious that Hansen is a dyed-in-the-wool global warming alarmist…whether he’s gone off the deep end or not.  He certainly is no longer a fair evaluator of scientific data.

You might even argue that he’s gone out of his way to cook the books with all the inaccuracies he’s reported in the past.  He has also accepted a great deal of money from green lobbyists and he’s now one of them–he needs to be replaced.

“And I Promise You, My Fellow Citizens, That I Will Raise The Funds With My New Sex-Toys Tax!”

Olympia, Wash. (AP) – It’s enough to make you blush: Some politicians want a bigger taste of the economy’s naughty side, pushing for special taxes on dirty magazines, racy movies, sex toys and strip clubs.

The new political goldmine: "skin" taxes.

The new political goldmine: "skin" taxes.

In Washington State, half-a-dozen cash-strapped legislators recently endorsed a huge sales tax increase on explicit movies, magazines and other sex-themed products.

New York officials recently acknowledged that Gov. David Paterson’s proposed “iPod tax” on Internet downloads also would apply to online porn purchases, along with tamer diversions such as pop music and computer software.

And in Texas, state lawyers are fighting to preserve the “pole tax,” a $5 cover charge on strip clubs that’s being challenged by business owners.

In the past five years, lawmakers from Tennessee to Kansas to California have pitched special taxes on porn, escort services, exotic dance clubs and other adult businesses. A U.S. senator even toyed with the idea of an Internet porn tax on the federal level.

Most of the proposals — call them skin taxes — have stalled, often because of conflicts with First Amendment protections of free expression. Washington’s proposed porn tax earned little support, despite the need to close an $8 billion budget deficit.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–Why would politicians care where the money comes from–as long as they can get their cut?  Dollars confiscated from the porn industry are every bit as spendable as taxes raked from more “legitimate” traditional businesses.  There’s no difference.

As for myself, it’s the taxes I’m against, not the products.  While I don’t like pornography to creep into mainstream areas of society, and I do believe that its internet presence is becoming a menace to the lives of some people–that’s up to individuals to address.  It is more important to protect the rights of  adults to make their own decisions and product choices–even if those decisions are self-destructive.

So I understand completely why politicians would look at the pornography market as a great source of tax money–this is every bit like taxing tobacco and alcohol products…but with an even less-sympathetic, less-noisy constituency.

But allowing politicians to continue down this path of taxing individual products that they find less “worthy” is a dangerous slippery slope.  Remember, there are thousands and thousands of products to tax if we allow politicians to comfortably travel down this road.

Protecting pornographers against confiscatory tax hikes isn’t the point…but protecting all of us against an ever-increasing, ever-expanding state is the point.

Siegfried & Roy Perform Final Show…

Siegfried, Roy, & Montecore Perform One Final Show

LAS VEGAS – Illusionists Siegfried and Roy — and the Bengal tiger that ended their careers — shared the stage again Saturday night for a haunting final performance.

That's a Wrap...the show finally ends.

That's a Wrap...the show finally ends.

The brief charity show saw Roy Horn and Siegfried Fischbacher side by side with Montecore, the massive white tiger that brutally mauled Horn during a 2003 performance.

Horn re-emerged Saturday dressed in black robes, his face covered with a skeletal mask. The dark stage was covered in smoke. Horn limped slowly onstage, often steadying himself on Fischbacher’s shoulder.

The two slowly performed a signature illusion as Fischbacher, dressed in white robes and a mask, stood inside a cage, which was then cloaked in drapes. As Horn removed the curtain seconds later, Fischbacher appeared across stage, a hulking tiger in his place.

As the crowd took to its feet, the men removed their masks. Fischbacher standing between the tiger and Horn. They waved and blew kisses at the audience, but said nothing.

An announcer left the crowd with this final thought: “Within all of us there is an illusive melody, which when heard and followed will lead you to the fulfillment of your fondest dreams.”

The performers’ manager, Bernie Yuman, later confirmed the tiger was Montecore.

B.S. Report–Roy Horn always claimed that the tiger wasn’t trying to hurt him and that it sensed that he was having a “stroke” and was just dragging him to safety, as she would have done with her cubs.

While I doubt that, I don’t doubt that the tiger wasn’t trying to hurt him…if it wanted to hurt him who was going to prevent her?  There wasn’t significant damage to Horn’s neck that would show the tiger was “playing for keeps.”

Looking back, the most amazing thing is that they performed this incredibly dangerous act for so many years with no barrier between themselves (the cats) and the audience.  The tigers could have easily taken out any person in the front row if that’s what they wanted to do.

“America’s Toughest Sheriff” Joe Arpaio In Trouble For Daring To Enforce Immigration Laws…

Joe Arpaio--A sheriff that actually protects America...

Joe Arpaio--A sheriff that actually protects America...

Unruly Mob Protests Immigration Enforcement

PHOENIX — Tensions rose between two large groups of protestors in downtown Phoenix on Saturday afternoon.

At issue, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s stand on immigration and his policy to detain undocumented immigrants.

A group of about 1,000 people turned out to march from Steele Indian School Park, along Central Avenue to protest Arpaio’s practices.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Matteson, one man was cited for carrying a concealed weapon after he made verbal threats against Arpaio. He reportedly was also carrying handcuffs and a Los Angeles police department badge.

Deputies are investigating whether the man was permitted to carry the handgun.

The route continued downtown to the Wells Fargo building where Arpaio’s offices are located. There is no word on whether the Sheriff was there.

The mostly-peaceful march suddenly turned tense, as a group of Arpaio supporters numbering in the hundreds began to shout at protestors along their route.

Phoenix police officers were posted along the route to keep the marchers safe.

“We are excited to see such a strong and peaceful showing of opposition to the wrong-headed policies of Sheriff Joe Arpaio,” Salvador Reza of Puente said in a news release after the march.  “… 5,000 marched today to make sure that the abuses that we’ve suffered under for far too long move from the local to being dealt with on the national level as well.”

Arpaio said that if the feds want to change the laws, he’s still got two state laws on the books to support his efforts to crack on undocumented immigrants.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–… “to make sure that the abuses that we’ve suffered for far too long move from the local to being dealt with on the national level as well.”  Give me a break!  You’re lawbreakers, not civil rights pioneers!  And by abuses–are you referring to the abuses of free health care, schooling, and welfare payments!

Joe Arpaio is one of the few sheriffs that is willing to take on the establishment bureaucrats and try to protect this country from an onslaught of illegal immigration.  We need more Sheriff Joe’s across the country.   And less bureaucrats.

Now though, we have a president that is certainly going to fling open the door to illegals, terrorists, and other assorted miscreants.  He doesn’t much care about the future of the country as long as its Democratic Party future is secure.

And it will be secure because just about every one of those illegals that enters the country will soon be democratic voters.  That’s true as long as we keep encouraging illegals by giving away “goodies” like welfare and free health care.  President Barack (Santa) Obama has already shown that he’s the King of the Giveaway.

This is what he’s up against:

“Chill” dude…Your hostility is making you obese…

Study May Indicate Link Between Hostility and Weight Gain

Reuters–Hostile men may pack on more pounds over time than their less hostile, more laid-back peers, new research shows.

"I am just feeling so hostile right now!"

"I am feeling so hostile right now...I can eat a horse!"

The more hostile a man’s personality, the more his body mass index (BMI) increased over the following two decades, Dr. Hermann Nabi of Hopital Paul Brousse in Villejuif, France and his colleagues found. BMI is the ratio of height to weight, used to determine if someone is within a normal weight range or is underweight, overweight or obese.

The researchers looked at data on 6,484 men and women participating in a UK study of socioeconomic status and health. Study participants ranged in age from 35 to 55 at the study’s outset. They completed a standard scale measuring hostility at the beginning of the study, while their BMI was determined at four points over 19 years.

At the beginning of the study, the researchers found, both men and women with higher hostility levels also had higher BMIs. BMIs rose over time.

While the relationship between BMI and hostility remained constant for women, hostility seemed to accelerate weight gain over time in the men.

Hostility could affect BMI in many ways, Nabi and his colleagues note in a report of the study appearing in the American Journal of Epidemiology. For example, hostile people may be less likely to follow health guidelines on diet and exercise, or be more likely to be depressed.

Prior studies have linked hostility to heart disease, high blood pressure, and a greater overall mortality risk, the researchers also note.

B.S. Report–I’m not a big “study” guy…What I mean is that most studies either tell you something you already should know, or they give you an excuse to say you’re not the reason for your problems.

Are men more “hostile” today than they were 50-100 years ago?  Perhaps, although I’ve never seen that study.  Obesity is a relatively recent phenomenon in the mainstream population, while hostility is a personality trait that has existed since day one.

I would guess the boom in obesity is a combination of factors ranging from poor diet, lack of exercise due to a sedentary lifestyle, and perhaps some genetic predisposition towards weight gain.

But like any of life’s obstacles, they can be overcome if you’re dedicated to doing so.  Studies such as these may show interesting links, but that’s about all.  For most of us, what we are and what we become depend on how much we are willing to invest.

Larry Kudlow: Obama declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs and small businesses…

President Obama: Economic Illiterate

President Obama: Economic Illiterate

Larry Kudlow Writing For CNBC

Let me be very clear on the economics of President Obama’s State of the Union speech and his budget.

He is declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds.

That is the meaning of his anti-growth tax-hike proposals, which make absolutely no sense at all — either for this recession or from the standpoint of expanding our economy’s long-run potential to grow.

Raising the marginal tax rate on successful earners, capital, dividends, and all the private funds is a function of Obama’s left-wing social vision, and a repudiation of his economic-recovery statements. Ditto for his sweeping government-planning-and-spending program, which will wind up raising federal outlays as a share of GDP to at least 30 percent, if not more, over the next 10 years.

This is nearly double the government-spending low-point reached during the late 1990s by the Gingrich Congress and the Clinton administration. While not quite as high as spending levels in Western Europe, we regrettably will be gaining on this statist-planning approach.

Study after study over the past several decades has shown how countries that spend more produce less, while nations that tax less produce more. Obama is doing it wrong on both counts.  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–This is a rerun of LBJ’s “Great Society” programs of the late ’60’s and early 70’s.  It’s also an attempt to fix all of life’s problems by throwing government (tax payer) money at them.  It didn’t work for LBJ and it’s not going to work for Obama.

Obama wants our country to be run by “super-smart” elites like himself.  But even experts are not experts at everything.  Obama himself has never worked in the private sector.   He’s never run anything.

Aside from being a community “rabble-rouser” and a brief tenure as a law professor, we  have elected a President that has zero experience doing much of anything.

William F. Buckley famously said that he would rather our country be run by the first hundred names of the Boston phone-book than by the faculty of Harvard.  Well, it looks like we’re about to test the downside of Mr. Buckley’s theory…because Obama and his chosen elite have the power to run everything right now…and there’s little that we can do to stop them.

Video shows Washington cop kicking teen girl

Deputy kicks, then throws girl to the ground

SEATTLE (AP) — A King County sheriff’s deputy kicks a 15-year-old girl, slams her to the floor of a jail cell, strikes her and pulls her hair in violence captured on videotape.

Prosecutors released the surveillance video Friday in the assault case against Deputy Paul Schene, who is accused of using excessive force on the girl. Schene, 31, pleaded not guilty to fourth-degree assault in Superior Court on Thursday.

In the video, a deputy kicks the girl, pushing her back toward the wall. The deputy then strongly backs the girl against the wall and slams her to the floor by grabbing her hair. A second deputy enters the holding cell, while the first deputy holds the girl face down to the floor. The first deputy appears to hit the girl with his hands. The girl is then lifted up and led out of the cell while the first deputy holds her hair.

The second officer shown in the video was a trainee at the time and is not under investigation, Goodhew said.

According to court documents, the girl complained of breathing problems after the incident and medics were called to check her. A short time later, she was taken to a youth detention center and booked for investigation of auto theft and third-degree assault, the latter accusation dealing with her conduct toward the deputy. The girl has pleaded not guilty to taking a motor vehicle without permission, Goodhew said Friday, adding she was never formally charged with assault.

The incident last November began after the girl was brought in for an auto theft investigation, according to court documents. The footage shows the attack beginning after the girl enters the cell at suburban SeaTac City Hall and kicks off one of her shoes toward the deputy.

“We believe this case is beyond just police misconduct, it’s criminal misconduct,” King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg said. “This is clearly excessive force.”

Schene was investigated previously for shooting two people – killing one – in the line of duty in 2002 and 2006. Both times his actions were found to be justified, said Ian Goodhew, prosecutor’s deputy chief of staff.

Calls by The Associated Press to Schene’s lawyer, Anne Bremner, were not immediately returned Friday. Bremner, however, released a statement to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in which she said the video does not tell the whole story. Bremner had asked Judge Catherine Shaffer not to release the video to the media.

“As we argued to the judge, it will inflame public opinion and will severely impact the deputy’s right to a fair trial,” Bremner said.

B.S. Report–What I hate even more than the officer’s actions is the fact that this little punk girl is likely going to pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars because this cop roughed her up a little.

I’m not defending the cop…it looks like he used excessive force.  The reason I say, “It looks like” is because these things aren’t always as “clear-cut” as they appear on the video.  I didn’t even see her kick her shoe off at the cop the first time I watched it.

Yes the cop roughed her up and he shouldn’t have–but he didn’t beat her up…at least I didn’t see him strike her, I saw him throw her to the ground.  That’s a big difference.  In my opinion, he should be reprimanded, maybe even suspended–but not fired.

On the other hand, the little brat who was possibly in on a car theft shouldn’t receive a penny.  She wasn’t damaged.  Had she been disciplined at home by parents (I’m assuming she wasn’t) she may have had more respect for other people and their property. I sure as heck wouldn’t want to be a cop in today’s environment.

What? A Modern Gal Has To Be Able To Multi-Task These Days…Woman Gets Ticket For Breastfeeding While Driving…While Talking On The Phone…

It Takes A Real “Boob” To Breastfeed While Driving!

KETTERING — A Harrison Twp. woman faces child endangering charges after police said she admitted to breastfeeding her child and talking on a cell phone while driving, according to Kettering Police Officer Michael Burke.

"Hold on a second, I've got to turn at the next light."

"Hold on a second, I've got to turn at the next light. Hey, quiet back there!"

The incident happened about 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb., 26, near the intersection of Far Hills Avenue and Dorothy Lane, Burke said.

A male motorist called the police department’s non-emergency number to report that he had seen the woman breastfeeding and talking on a cell phone while driving, Burke said. The man reported that he also witnessed the woman driving a Honda minivan into the parking lot of a local school and saw some children get out of the van. The man then got the van’s license plate number and called police.

“I’m following right behind her right now on Far Hills Avenue,” the caller said as he spoke to a Kettering dispatcher in a recording of his non-emergency call that was released by police on Friday, Feb. 27.

“I tried to say something to her. She literally has the little girl on the steering wheel and I said, ‘I can’t believe you have that kid in your lap and she said, ‘You want to pop your titty out and breastfeed this kid?’ That’s what she said to me. I’m like, ‘You can feed your kid when you stop.’ It’s like wet out here. It’s full of traffic. It’s ridiculous. She’s got like three other kids in the car.”  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–Wow, the guy actually ratted her out…I don’t know that I would have done the same.  But the guy is obviously right…we all see how many accidents are caused or narrowly averted just by talking on the cell phone.

Add breastfeeding into the mix and the 3 other kids in the car and this lady is behaving really irresponsibly.

I’d like to register my own complaint here and now.  Lately, I’ve seen a lot more cars with videos playing…and I don’t mean just for the passengers.  I’ve seen many drivers now watching dvd movies in their cars while driving.

Nepalese Man Finally Finds Happiness With Wife #25

With #25 and daughter...

With future ex-wife #25 and daughter.

Melbourne, September 14 (ANI): It took Ramachandra Katuwal, a Nepalese porter, twenty-five marriages to finally find the right woman to be happy with.

The 49-year-old, who first got married at the age of 26, admittedly remembers only nine of his previous brides.

Whilst his first wife, and later, many others, ran off with her lover, Katuwal from then on led a life of succeeding failed marriages covering an incredible span of more than two decades.

“My second wife also ran away,” The Daily Telegraph quoted him saying, “and the third one too.”

“(Like other ex-wives) the 24th one also ran away. And I decided not to marry again,” he added.

But he changed his mind and married 23-year-old Sharada seven years ago.

And when asked why he did so, he replied: I wanted to have a wife, because a house is not house without a wife,”

Pleased and determined not to marry again, Katuwal has finally concluded his most-recent marriage as the much wanted “journey of happiness”.

B.S. Report–Didn’t this guy ever wonder, say, after 10 failed marriages, or 15, or 20, that maybe it wasn’t the wives fault.  “Perhaps I’m the problem,” should have entered his head.

The guy is only 49 years-old and on wife 25…they must start to dislike him very quickly.  He must have some line to reel in 25 women…but they eventually get wise to him.  Though I guess India doesn’t have very strict spousal support laws.  The guy is doing all right for a poverty-stricken porter.

He says he only remembers 9 of his wives…that means it’s possible he may have married the same wife more than once.

“And Now You Know The Resssst Of The Story” …Paul Harvey Dies At 90

Paul Harvey 1918-2009

Paul Harvey 1918-2009

CHICAGO– Paul Harvey, the news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation’s most familiar voices, died Saturday in Arizona, according to ABC Radio Networks. He was 90.

Harvey died surrounded by family at a hospital in Phoenix, where he had a winter home, said Louis Adams, a spokesman for ABC Radio Networks, where Harvey worked for more than 50 years. No cause of death was immediately available.

Harvey had been forced off the air for several months in 2001 because of a virus that weakened a vocal cord. But he returned to work in Chicago and was still active as he passed his 90th birthday. His death comes less than a year after that of his wife and longtime producer, Lynne.

“My father and mother created from thin air what one day became radio and television news,” Paul Harvey Jr. said in a statement. “So in the past year, an industry has lost its godparents and today millions have lost a friend.”

Known for his resonant voice and trademark delivery of “The Rest of the Story,” Harvey had been heard nationally since 1951, when he began his “News and Comment” for ABC Radio Networks.

He became a heartland icon, delivering news and commentary with a distinctive Midwestern flavor. “Stand by for news!” he told his listeners. He was credited with inventing or popularizing terms such as “skyjacker,” “Reaganomics” and “guesstimate.”

“Paul Harvey was one of the most gifted and beloved broadcasters in our nation’s history,” ABC Radio Networks President Jim Robinson said in a statement. “We will miss our dear friend tremendously and are grateful for the many years we were so fortunate to have known him.”  (Read more.)

B.S. Report–He was a class act and a wonderful storyteller. RIP.
